Written pattern
The chart and your writing are independent. Check that stitch counts, shaping and instructions agree before knitting.
Useful knitting calculations
Use measurements from your own swatch. These are estimates, not a garment sizing service.

Worked example
Connect a stitch chart with a gauge calculation
Input: Create a small chart and enter a swatch of 20 stitches and 28 rows over 10 × 10 cm. Calculate a target of 15 × 20 cm.
Result: The gauge calculator gives 30 stitches and 56 rows. Add your yarn, needles and instructions before printing the pattern preview.
Meaning: The calculation scales your measured swatch: 20 ÷ 10 × 15 = 30 stitches; 28 ÷ 10 × 20 = 56 rows.
Remember: Swatch with the actual yarn and needles. Rounded counts may need adjusting to a repeat or shaping. A chart is a design aid, not a tested garment; save a local backup.

A few useful things to know
Where is my pattern saved?
Create a chart and written instructions together. Drafts stay in this browser. Save designs in your archive; sign in to share a read-only pattern.
Does the chart write instructions for me?
No. Create the chart and written instructions side by side, then check that both agree. No automatic garment sizing or grading is provided.
How do I read the chart?
Start at the bottom. Flat knitting alternates right-to-left right-side rows and left-to-right wrong-side rows. In the round, read every row right to left.
Can I print my pattern?
Yes. Print pattern includes the complete chart, stitch legend and all your written instructions. You can also save a PDF using your browser print dialog.
Is this free and private?
Knitting drafts and browser archives stay on your device. If you choose the online archive, VikingTools stores the chart, instructions, title and author in your account. Designs are private until you share them. Anyone with a shared link or embed can view the saved design. Stop sharing or delete the design to disable its public link. Download a backup before clearing browser data or deleting your account.
